Fuel Prices Soar Impacting Container Transport Logistics

The likelihood of the conflict in the Middle East continuing for at least a few more weeks is having a dramatic impact on diesel prices in Australia.

According to expert analysis by the Australian Institute of Petroleum (AIP), the average Terminal Gate Price (TPG) for diesel rose by between 29.2% and 30.7% across Australian cities in just one week (from Wed, 4th March to Tuesday, 10th March)!

Analysis of the price rises show the following percentage increases in Terminal Gate Prices (TPG) for diesel in the major capital city ports in Australia in one week:

• SYDNEY:  30.35%
• MELBOURNE:  29.22%
• BRISBANE:  30.19%
• ADELAIDE:  30.67%
• PERTH:  30.74%

Given the volatility of fuel pricing, CTAA is recommending that container transport operators review their Fuel Surcharge rates on at least a weekly basis, if not on a daily basis.
