The average Terminal Gate Price (TGP) for diesel has moderated in recent days, from a national average of 325.9 cents per litre (cpl) on Thursday, 9 April to 263.5 cpl on Friday, 17 April 2026 – a reduction of 23.69% over a week.
This has had the impact of lowering moderately the Fuel Surcharge rates levied by container transport operators on customers in the container transport & logistics supply chain.
While stocks of diesel in Australia are holding steady (31 days of supply) and incoming supply secured for the coming months, diesel prices are still extremely high, and freight transport operators face a cash-flow “crunch” as fuel bills are due to suppliers at double the price or more than was the case before the Middle East crisis commenced.
