Brace for Impact: M1 Tolls Set to Hike Container Transport Costs in Melbourne

Container transport operators are bracing for significantly higher road transport costs once the new heavy vehicle tolls take effect on the M1 corridor west of Melbourne when the West Gate Tunnel infrastructure opens in December, combined with the impact of No Truck Zone enforcement on inner west roads.

CTAA modelling shows that the cost of container transport operations to/from the Port of Melbourne will increase by approx. 13% to as much as 30% (compared to typical current market-driven base container road cartage rates).
