Leading economics, commercial advisory and strategy consulting firm, NineSquared, has published an Insights Paper on Container Detention Charges levied by foreign shipping lines in Australia.
The analysis has identified an increase of 12% in container detention charges levied between 2020 and 2022, with a conversative illustration of the total cost to cargo owners and transport operators in 2021-22 of around $70 million.
Australian importers, exporters, freight forwarders and transport operators still await a formal response from the Federal Government to the recent Productivity Commission and ACCC reports on these issues.
